What are the dates for the upcoming season? 

• Please note all dates are subject to change
• Registration: Mid-September 2021
• Player Evaluations: Mid-November 2021
• Practices Begin: After Evaluations
• 2021/2022 Season: December 2021 thru January 2022
• End of Season Tournament: Early February 2022

When/Where are practices/games? 

• Practices will be twice a week, Monday-Friday for 1 hour.
• Times can be anywhere from 6:30-8:00 pm, depending on coach and gym availability.
• Practices will take place at Western Union Elementary, Waxhaw Elementary, Sandy Ridge Elementary or Kensington Elementary. 
• Games will be Saturdays, with the possibility of a few Sunday games due to gym availability or school closures.
• Home games will take place at Cuthbertson Middle & High School or Western Union Elementary.
• The EOS tournament will be Early February 2022.

Can I request a specific practice day/time/location? What if I have a conflict with another activity? Can I request not to practice on a certain day? 

• We cannot honor specific practice day/time/location requests.

I'm registering more than one child. Can I request they be on the same team even though they fall under different age divisions

• We will review this on a case by case basis in order to ensure all children have fun and are playing in the appropriate division based on skill level. 

Can I request a teammate for carpooling purposes? 

• We will not be honoring any requests for players to be on a team together. This is the only way to ensure competitive balance. 

My son/daughter will be trying out for the school team. What should I do? 

• Middle Schoolers can play both School and Rec. High Schoolers cannot. 
• For middle School Players: Our suggestions is to register them. The school does not ensure playing time, and every year we receive request to join after the season starts.
• For High School Players: Please register them, and if they make the team, we will refund your fee. We had to turn players away in the prior seasons after final cuts due to a lack of coaches. Registering them will help us prepare.

COVID GUIDELINES FOR 2021-2022

Our highest priority remains the safety and well-being of our athletes during basketball activities. These suggestions are developed based on the recommendation of the CDC and the NC Health and Human Services. As the only indoor sport for Waxhaw Athletic Association, we should do our best to limit the spread of any potential contagion.

As a member of the Union County Basketball Committee, Waxhaw Basketball will join its partners in recognizing UCPS guidelines.

Currently, MASKS ARE NOT REQUIRED but STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

Please see the Union County Department of Health recommendations for indoor gatherings and NC DHHS' designation  of children (ages 5 - 11), since they are not able to be vaccinated, as a higher risk group. 

"The CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings, like on public and mass transportation, at events and gatherings, and anywhere they will be around other people. Growing evidence shows that cloth face coverings or masks, when worn consistently, can decrease the spread of COVID-19, especially among people who are not yet showing symptoms of the virus."

"Union County doesn’t have a county-wide mask mandate, however it is recommended in public indoor settings. Adults can make choices to limit their movements throughout the county. They can choose not to go to restaurants, stores, etc. All adults have had the opportunity to receive a vaccine since the Spring. On the other hand, we want our kids learning in classrooms, which are indoor, state-mandated, in-person gatherings which can pose a high risk of serious illness for some teachers and staff who are older, or for anyone who might have immunocompromising conditions. And, many students are not yet eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine due to their age. Those factors make it a high-risk environment for the spread of any communicable disease and particularly the Delta variant of COVID we are battling right now."

PLAYER AND REFEREES:

• Will NOT BE REQUIRED to wear a mask WHILE PARTICIPATING in basketball activities
• WILL bring their own PROPERLY LABELED bag, ball and water bottle

COACHES:

• RECOMMENDED TO WEAR A MASK DURING GAMES OR HUDDLES, as they will have the closest contact with the players and we would like to limit the spread of any potential unknown viruses.
• WILL NOT BE REQUIRED to wear a mask during practice, as they will be participating. Please limit close (less than 6 feet) contact with players without a mask (i.e. in a huddle)

PARENTS AND SPECTATORS:

• RECOMMENDED to wear a mask at all times while indoors

GENERAL HEALTH GUIDELINES:

• Have had a positive COVID test in the past 10 days? Stay Home
• Have a fever? Stay Home
• Have a cold or feel sick? Stay Home
• Are quarantining from close contact? Stay Home
• Have been in close contact with a recent COVID positive test? Stay Home
