Waxhaw Athletic Association Family,

Many WAA Presidents have come before my time and unfortunately I have to report about one that has been called to lead youth organizations in the heavens. The person I am referring to is Rick Giarla who was the President of Waxhaw Athletic Association for 10+ years. I'd like to highlight a few of Rick's accomplishments as a way of paying homage to him.

During Rick's time:

• He was both T-Ball & Baseball Commissioner.
• He introduced Girls Basketball to WAA with assistance from Trevina Washington.
• He helped open what we affectionately call home, H.C. Nesbit Park, in 2010 as WAA President.

These are the types of people that deserve recognition for work that more often goes unseen but that is how they prefer it to be. Please take a moment in silence and thank Rick for making a mark in Waxhaw for the kids that are likely now in their 20's and maybe 30's.

Rest in Peace Rick... although we never met.. you will be missed.
