Coaches, Players & Parents

CODE OF CONDUCT

Below is a guideline Coach, Player & Parents Conduct. Please review these guidelines and we ask that you adhere to these Codes of Conduct. You will be required to accept these guidelines as part of each player registration. Thank you for your support and understanding in all of these matters.

Players code of Conduct​​​​​​

  • Players will play within the rules at all times.
  • Players will give their best effort on the field.
  • Players will give their teammates 100% support.
  • Players will not harass, nor verbally attack, others.
  • Players will not intentionally attempt to injure others.
  • Players will not use inappropriate or obscene language.
  • Players will never openly question a coach or umpire(s).
  • Players will not mingle with parents or supporters during games or practices.
  • Players will never respond to any negative comments from parents or supporters.
  • Players will arrive on time for all team related functions.
    • As a member of the team, you have a responsibility to the other team players to be at practices and games.
    • If you are unable to attend any practices or games, please call, text, or email your coach at your earliest convenience (24 hrs notice preferred).
  • Players will wear the appropriate uniform, practice attire, and protective equipment whenever they are on the field.
  • Players should congratulate opponents on good plays, help opponents up if they are down or injured, and shake hands at the end of a game.
  • Players should approach the coach with any questions about playing time, positioning, or strategy before/after games or practices. These issues will not be discussed with teammates, especially during a game.

coaches code of conduct

  • I will encourage good sportsmanship from players, fellow coaches, officials, and parents at every game and practice by demonstrating good sportsmanship myself.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of my personal desire to win.
  • I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for my players.
  • I will refrain from making derogatory remarks or using foul language to or about any umpires, referees, coaches, parents, players, and spectators.
  • I will make sure my players and parents treat other players, parents, spectators, umpires, referees and coaches with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or playing ability.
  • I will remember that I am a youth sports coach and that the game is for the children, not the adults.
  • I will be knowledgeable of the rules and will teach these rules to my players.
  • I will refrain from the use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco products at all WAA sponsored events, games and practices.
  • I commit to promoting and preserving Waxhaw Softball as an organization and entity.  I will refrain from promoting or recruiting any and all softball programs outside of WAA without the express permission of the Commissioner.
  • I understand that intimidating actions with children, parents, spectators, referees or umpires will not be tolerated.

Parent code of Conduct

As a parent, I agree that during the season, I will:

  • Emphasize fun. I will create a positive and fun environment for my child to promote life skills and good health.
  • Not pressure my child to participate. I will help my child develop internal motivation and love of the game.
  • Encourage learning and development. I will work to educate myself and my child about the game so that my child can get the best exposure to the sport.
  • Emphasize fair play by the rules. I will always insist that my child plays fairly and by the rules.
  • Help the coach achieve team goals. I will work with the coaches to help my child develop a mastery of the skills and an appreciation for team contributions. I will work to help the coach achieve the goals and objectives that have been defined for the team.
  • Let the coach control the game. I will not yell instructions to my child from the side-lines.
  • Express only positive comments and attitude. I will be a positive role model for my child. I will show emotional maturity by controlling my anger and never using obscene language or gestures. I will show a positive attitude toward the game and all its participants. I will not argue or yell about the referee’s call.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship. I will treat everyone fairly and with respect. I will set high standards for my child to follow. I will respect the importance and contributions of volunteer coaches.

I have read and understand the above Code of Conduct and agree to follow its guidelines at all league activities. I understand that if I do not follow this Code of Conduct, I may be asked to leave the league activity (such as a game or practice) or I may be asked to withdraw my child from the league.


Consequences for Player/Parent/Coach Unsportsmanlike Behavior

  • Ejected Player – Any player who throws a bat, helmet, glove, or any other object, will be ejected from the game. ALL COACHES ARE TO MAKE THEIR PLAYERS AWARE OF THIS RULE. A player ejected from a game more than once during a season will be suspended from further competition.
  • Suspended Player/Coach – Any player/coach displaying unsportsmanlike behavior will be ejected from the game. ALL COACHES ARE TO MAKE THEIR PLAYERS AWARE OF THIS RULE. The player or coach ejected from the game will also be suspended for their team's next played game, and will not be allowed anywhere near the field.
  • Parent Code Of Conduct – Any parent displaying unsportsmanlike behavior during the game will be removed from the field area. If the unsportsmanlike behavior continues, their child will be removed from the game and asked to leave the complex. If the situation continues or escalates further, local law enforcement may be called in.
