waxhaw softball - 8U

Players continue to build on the fundamentals introduced in T-Ball as they adjust to hitting coach and player pitch.  Focusing on basic mechanics of throwing, catching, fielding, and hitting.  Players will learn the rules of the game as well as basic concepts such as proper positions and how the game is played.

  • Ages - Girls age 6, 7, and 8 as of December 31, 2023
  • Practices & Games - Teams will practice once during the week (M-F) and once on the weekends (Sat. or Sun.) until the season starts.  Once games begin, practices will depend on coach and field availability. 
  • Practices are held at Waxhaw Elementary School.
  • Teams play a 10-12 game schedule with teams playing no more than 2 games during a week.
  • Waxhaw Softball partners with CharMeck Softball - as such, some games will be away from Waxhaw Elementary School.

Equipment Needed

  • Each player needs the following:
    • Softball glove
    • Defensive face mask 
    • Softball cleats 
    • Batting helmet with face guard
    • Fastpitch softball bat with ASA stamp

Fees

  • Registration for 8U Girls Softball is $250.00 per player per season. 
  • Registration fees cover the cost of league and state registration fees, insurance, equipment, umpires, field maintenance, utility costs, and uniforms. 
  • Uniforms include player's jersey, softball pants, belt, and socks. 

Assessments

  • Assessments will take place at the Softball Field at Waxhaw Elementary School.
  • Times for each division TBD. 
  • Players should arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time. 
  • Players should bring their gloves, batting helmet, face mask, and softball bat.
  • If you do not have all of these items, we will have some for you to use. 
  • Each player will field a few ground balls, make some throws, catch and hit. 
  • After assessments are complete, teams will be announced. 
  • Every player makes a team. If you are unable to make assessments, your player will be selected at the end of the draft.

Coaches

  • Coaches at this level are volunteers.  
  • They willingly give their time and energy to our young players.
  • In return for their efforts they receive our appreciation, memories made with the children and a group of smiling faces.
  • Please consider becoming a coach.

The Registration "Divisions" is not currently available.

waxhaw softball - 10u

  • Ages - Girls age 11, 12 and 13 as of December 31, 2023
  • Practices & Games - Teams will practice once during the week (M-F) and once on the weekends (Sat. or Sun.) until the season starts.  Once games begin, practices will depend on coach and field availability. 
  • Practices are held at Waxhaw Elementary School.
  • Teams play a 10-12 game schedule with teams playing no more than 2 games during a week.

  • Practices are held at Waxhaw Elementary School.
  • Teams play a 10-12 game schedule with teams playing no more than 2 games during a week.

waxhaw challenge softball

WAA Girls Softball as an affiliate association with CharMeck Softball League will offer Challenge Softball at Waxhaw.  Its purpose is to provide the player an opportunity to excel in the fundamentals of softball in a more competitive environment.

  • Challenge Softball is for players that show an increased interest or excel in mechanics and fundamentals of softball. 
  • Challenge Softball will provide the advanced level players the opportunity to improve their skills through more competitive practices and competition.
  • There may be a Challenge Team for each division or no Challenge Team for each division, depending on the number of interested players and the number of volunteer coaches to participate. 
  • Each Division will hold tryouts that are separate from Recreational Softball Evaluations. 
  • Challenge Teams will hold separate practices and play extra games against other CharMeck Girls Softball Challenge Teams or may choose to enter local tournaments at the Team's expense.
  • Players MUST be an active player on a WAA Girls Softball Roster for the regular season in order to tryout and be placed on a roster for a Challenge Team.

Challenge Softball is a competitive program designed for the advanced player.

  • All Players interested MUST tryout and not everyone makes a team.
  • You can only tryout for the Challenge Team within the Division you are registered in for Spring or Fall Season.
  • A player playing in 10U regular season cannot tryout for 13U. 

The cost of Challenge Softball is separate from Recreational Softball and is an extra expense to the families participating. 

  • Costs will be based on the number of players per team. 
  • Costs per player includes insurance and tournament entry fees.
  • This does not include any travel expenses incurred by the team or gate fees at each tournament.
  • Payment is expected in full within two weeks after the team has been announced.
  • Financial aid for Challenge Softball is not available through WAA since this is considered as extra softball.

Challenge Softball Tryouts TBD.  They will take place after Recreational Softball Teams have formed. Challenge teams will begin practice after regular season practices have begun.
